Privacy Policy
Al Dente is published by [PUBLISHER — company or your full name]. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
What we collect
- Account: your email address and password (stored hashed by our sign-in provider), or the name and email Apple or Google share when you sign in with them, plus sign-in and security records such as device type and IP address.
- What you set up: the name you choose, your region (guessed from your device's language and region settings until you change it), cooking experience, your usual table size, and a weekly goal if you set one.
- What you cook: the dish you're cooking, your choices, the step you're on and your timers; each finished dish with its date, servings, version, any rating, note and photo you add, and how many rescues it needed; your passport stamps, mastered dishes and servings count.
- Photos: only photos you choose to add. The app shrinks them (to 1280 pixels and a compressed JPEG) before they leave your device.
Why
To run your account and keep your cooking, journal and passport in step across your devices. Your settings decide which tips and goals you see. Your ratings and rescues decide when a dish counts as mastered and what the next cook of it changes. Security records protect your account.
How we improve the app
While you cook, the app records what happens: when a cook starts, finishes or stops early, each step done, when you open Fix it, how you answer the "is it ready?" checks, ratings, and when you share a card. Each record holds the dish, the step and the time, and is kept with your account. We use these records, added up across everyone, to find where cooking goes wrong and fix it. They're never shown to anyone else, never sold, and never sent to an analytics or advertising company. They're deleted with your account.
Who processes it
- Clerk: sign-in and accounts.
- Convex: database and photo storage.
- Vercel: hosts this website and the web app.
- Expo: delivers app updates; it sees your device's IP address when the app checks for one.
- Apple or Google, only if you sign in with them.
These providers may store data in the United States and other countries, under their own safeguards for international transfers.
On your device
The app keeps a copy of your cook in progress and your profile so it works without a signal, plus your sound setting, how long your water usually takes to boil, and the records above until they reach your account. Timer alarms are local notifications scheduled on your device; no notification content goes through our servers.
Shared posts
Nothing is public unless you choose to share a dish. A shared post shows your chosen name, the dish, your note and photo. Your email is never shown.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it or your account. Deleting a dish removes it and its photo. Deleting your account removes everything listed above from our systems straight away; copies in our providers' backups expire on their schedules.
Your choices and rights
You can change your settings, delete dishes, and delete your account in Settings at any time (how). Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, export or restrict the use of your data, and to complain to a data-protection authority. Write to us and we'll answer within 30 days.
Children
Al Dente isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We'll update the date above and tell you in the app about changes that matter.
